Feel that howling guitar sound at the start of that record.  When I heard that tone I knew that I was in love.  Take that and add spot on vocals with dashes of group vocals here and there, I am simply ready to take out a ring and marry this band.  Highly energetic and full of musicianship brings me to the point of passion.  I’ve been repeating this release over and over lately and well… my best advice is that you should to.  The end of Winter/Mute blows me away every time.  Get pumped.  Get ALTA

This is an open shut case, Alaska – Palcaptain is a rad record. These dudes from Nevada play a mixture of Melodic hardcore and Post-Hardcore, pretty much riding the line in between the two genres.  Sometimes they sound like bands that people compare them to but I believe them to be too unique to do so.  Maybe you can say they sound like pianos trying to write a touche amore song while simultaneously sounding like touche amore trying to sound like pianos.  In the end they don’t sound like either one but at least I gave it my best shot trying to describe it.

If you are down to be amazed then listen to this record.

Info -

Caust is a new screamo/emotional hardcore/emoviolence band from Northern Virginia. This five-piece is clearly influenced by the classics of the genre (read: Orchid, The Kodan Armada, Funeral Diner) but puts their own spin on things by speeding up tempo and slowing it way down. From the first screech of the guitar I was hooked.  This is Caust’s first release and if it’s a sign of future recordings – I expect good things from this passionate young band.

Montpellier, the experimental post-hardcore band on the other half of the split cassette, is also great. Check out their bandcamp here, or when we review this release in the future!

This band is a classic example of a band whose recordings don’t do them justice. And that’s not even saying their recordings are bad – they’re just so gosh darn good live. Also, they are super fun goofy dudes who like to dumpster dive for Pizza with We Were Skeletons. This band draws obvious comparisons to Envy, but I don’t think they sound all that much like Envy. Their drummer likes it when they’re compared to Russian Circles, so, in case you were wondering, they sound a bit like Russian Circles.

I don’t know how to describe this record or at least in a way that can express how much it means to me.  It was the first more ambient record that I have ever enjoyed before Following the Tracks I avoided anything ambient.  Although this is far from ambient, this is post hardcore at its finest and it is very well done.  I know that this is a bad review but this is Every Poets Disease.

Has a cover of Just What I Needed by The Cars on it – enough said.

Detroit’s Empire State Games sound a lot like Texas Is The Reason, except they lack the parts of TITR that has kept me from liking them and replaced them with a faster, more energetic sound. It’s a good listen now and then for sure!

La Bella plays a fairly unique style of hardcore, almost to the point to where I couldn’t be able to put my finger on their major influences.  I think it is mainly that the guitar tone is very different than most stuff of the genre, I’m no musician but it kind of sounds like a “dad rock” guitar tone.  That would be offensive if this album was unlistenable but it is quite the opposite.  To me La Bella is fresh, something familiar but different and this record drags me in every time.  I read that they are going to be releasing something new soon.  Can’t wait. Stoked.

This is one of the records that changed my life.  Maybe you can say it was what pulled me into this crazed punk sub genre that is emo or emocore or whatever.  I would say that Do Not Consider Yourself Free is the best song on the record but if you ask me the same question while I listen to the record I will say the same thing about each song.  I can’t get over it.  I guess it is only available on CD now but at some point I got it on vinyl maybe ebay?  I dont remember.

Listening to any Pyramids release is like going on an intense adventure.  The lyrics are a poetic story that is surely going to open your imagination.  When I first got this I was floored and every time I pick it up again I feel the same thing.

I was going to hold onto posting this record until I moved to a new city in about three-six months as a hardcore resume but I forgot to think about a post for today so I am kind of rushing.  I used to be in this band and I wrote and sung all the lyrics on this record.  I guess Step Dads is a Post-Rock/Emo/Hardcore band on this record, I’m not sure what they are like now because I haven’t been in the band for half a year.  Anyways I don’t want to describe the music or whatever besides that writing the lyrics for it got some shit off my chest.

So yeah if you like my bad voice and in three to six months you need a vocalist for you’re band and live in a city on the east coast than I will be down to practice with you.

PPS If the song titles seem dumb and too long it is because they were going to be a story about a kid’s, Tommy, life living with a step dad.

PPPS yeah this is the second post I have written about that is on my label, I just hand made all of the cdrs and had a blast making weird album art that everyone hated but me.
