Label – (Never Lost Records)
Style – Post Hardcore/Hardcore
From -Austin, Texas, United States

Let us jump right into this… Residual & Timeless combines what I love about current Post Hardcore and what I didn’t know I loved about 2000′s era Hardcore.  There are solid melodic guitar parts mixed with up beat drums mixed with sorrowful lyrics.  It’s like Statuette wants to throw you into the mud to deal with the bleakness of life while saying “There are so many of us going threw the same bleak shit.”

I’m pretty sure that is 100% the most accurate way to describe this band.  If I were to see them live I would lose my voice screaming along to all the lyrics.  Thanks guys.

Oh man!  I am moving to Ohio in about two weeks so why not review some rad Ohio Bands?

Maumelle is a band from southern Columbus Ohio and play a mixture of noodlely emo and 90′s pop punk emo.  I’m sure that if you are reading this blog that you are interested in that description.  Most of the vocal’s are Gainesville abrasive.  Maybe this is one of the best records in a while.  I don’t know, you be the judge and listen to it right now!

Where was I when this came out?  Where have I been?  What’s going on now?

Shit, No Tongue is refreshing to me right now.  Four tracks of solid screamo with influences from all around.  I wish this wasn’t just a couple of mp3s but a seven inch or something.  Definitely worth keeping around.

Ted’s Approval – Red Dream

Medium – Tape
Label – (Driftwood Records)
Style – Post-Hardcore/Emotive Hardcore
From – Santa Cruz, California, United States

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

Red Dream by Ted’s Approval has so much that I want in a release.  Like most west-coast bands they push the envelope on hardcore/skramz/whatever.  There are elements and influences from a wide range of music subgenres that I can’t accurately describe but here is what I can say. This Release Rules.

There is a little bit of everything that I like, raw emotional vocals, poetic lyrics, screaming, singing, background vocals, weird shit, rad shit, lil bit of sing along spots, a mixture of genres.  God damn Driftwood records puts out another awesome record from another awesome band.

Comadre – Self Titled

Band – Comadre (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Comadre
Medium – Twelve Inch
Label – (Vitriol Records)
Style – Hardcore
From – California

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

I’m sure everyone knows this band or has been reading a bunch of well thought out and well written reviews of this record.  This means that I should most likely either A. just link you to another review or B. write as little as possible.  I’ll go with B.

This is the kind of band and the kind of record that you pre order without hearing a song.  I placed that bet and won.  Listen to it and then go listen to their discography and try not to get stoked on life.  I dare you

From – Districts - Lowell, Massachusetts, USA

Wow, Districts and Regret, The Informer doing a split together?  Can I say match made in heaven?  That was exactly what I was thinking when I saw that they were getting together and doing this.  When It was posted I immediately listened to the release over and over again.  I drafted a post and then the worst thing happened!  The Ghost is Clear pulled the full stream.  This sent me into bummer summer mode.  Then two or so months later here we are, full stream ahead.  I am stoked again!

After about a thousand listens to and contemplation I can bring you these results, this split is fucking awesome.

Let us start with Districts, my wonderful girlfriend turned me onto them at around the time I posted the review of their demo some time ago last year.  I fell in love with them, emotional hardcore or whatever you want to call it.  This split offers more insight into the life of the vocalist through venerable introspective lyrics.  The Giver is the jammer on the Districts side, great lyrics to get you pumped on being depressed.

Regret, The Informer is on the flip side of this record and put out equal intense hits as the A side.  Each song pulls us along through a modern take on 90′s emo.  They really have crafted their own style and I give them mad props to that because these songs are just so unique and powerful.  The lyrics stick in my mind like glue and I wanna sing aloud all day, but I can’t because I am not insane.

Buy, Listen, Buy, Listen, Buy.

Missive – Not A Moment Goes By

Band – Missive (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Not A Moment Goes By
Medium – Mp3
Label – (Self-Released)
Style – Melodic Hardcore
From – Sacramento, California, United States

(Stream)

Info -

Missive is a new band from Sacramento Cali and this release is defiantly pretty amazing.  This record is dripping with a mixture of anger, sadness, raw emotion, confusion, introspection and more.  Many different voices accompany the lead singer and that is something that I love in a band.  The lyrics are also extremely passionate and honest.

Info -

God damn bands from Alberta can you please stop putting out hit after hit?  Well I am not going to complain and you, the reader, already know with out reading this review that this album is fucking awesome.

Book of Caverns is one of my favorite bands right now so I was sure that they couldn’t put out another emotional powerful rager but they prove me wrong with Homes. Go listen to this release on exclaim.ca and wish that it was out now.

SRVVLST – I Would But I’m Baroque

Band – SRVVLST (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – I Would But I’m Baroque
Medium – Tape
Label – (Driftwood Records)
Style – Post-Post
From - Columbus, Ohio, United States

(Stream)

Info -

I’m a horrible writer and a horrible reviewer, one thing that I can accurately say about SRVVLST is that this ep is amazing.  I Would Buy I’m Baroque is a six track record that I keep repeating over and over because my mind is unable to understand why I like it so much.  I have a problem with liking bands that are on the edge of genres that you can’t say confidently that they are this or that.  I love the vocal style, sloppy, the musicianship, unique and crisp and the sing a longs, plenty.  I say this all the time, because it is the point of this blog, you need to check out this band now and learn to love them even though they are from the weird town of Columbus Ohio.

Shizune – Mono No Aware: Between Eternity and the Burial

Band – Shizune (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Mono No Aware: Between Eternity and the Burial
Medium – mp3
Label – Self Released
Style – Post Hardcore/Screamo
From - Vicenza, Italy

(Stream)

Info -

Shizune are a five piece from Italy that play some very powerful and tight Sreamo.  There are multiple duel vocal bits that go on and these five melodic and chaotic songs span three different languages. this Ep packs some much punch even though it clocks in under the nine minute mark.  Best Ep of the year?  Maybe so check it out yourself!
