Note to band: Vegansim is Easy! All day everyday.

Info -

Box Social is two dudes far away from each other making sweet emo jams over the internet.  I’ve been meaning to post this since it came out but I got lazy or busy or whatever.  These five songs pack some emotional punch, sometimes singing sometimes screaming, all passion.

Jowls – Cursed

Band – Jowls (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Cursed
Medium – Ten Inch
Label – (Doghouse)
Style – Post-Hardcore
From – Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

Jowls: Cursed – Brutal, intense, passionate, dark, and spiteful.  I saw this three piece a few days ago in indianapolis and was lucky enough to be able to pick this release up in tape format.  The recent change from two to three piece Jowls is paving the road for post hardcore and screamo. The lyrics on the six tracks of Cursed bury you in despair, anger and revenge.  The music encompasses every verb that I have given to describe the album.  I am a relativity positive person but after one listen I start to feel very pessimistic.  I don’t know if that is what they are going for but if so, right on.

Empire State Games – Discography

Band – Empire State Games - (last.fm)
Release Title - Discography (2002)
Medium – Compact Disc
Label: (Elkion Records)
Style: emo/pop punk
From: Detroit, Michigan, USA

(Stream)(Buy)

Info:

Has a cover of Just What I Needed by The Cars on it – enough said.

Detroit’s Empire State Games sound a lot like Texas Is The Reason, except they lack the parts of TITR that has kept me from liking them and replaced them with a faster, more energetic sound. It’s a good listen now and then for sure!

Jacques Rocque – EP

Band – Jacques Rocque (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – EP
Medium – Mp3
Label – Self Released
Style –Screamo/emo/noodles
From - Rochester, Michigan, USA

Track List -

  1. Dire, Dire Docks
  2. Calluses and Calendars
  3. The Void of Space

(Stream)

Info -

I was jamming hard to this album a few days ago, you know, listening to it over and over again, until I accidentally quit my browser.  Like a double idiot I did not have their bandcamp or name memorized.  What a chump.  Somehow after a few minutes of searching I found them again and repeated the EP over and over again.

This record starts off with some fast moving twinkles and lyrics that make you feel like you are flying through the sky. Jacques Rocque plays a mixture of screamo and emo.  Sometimes laying down some intense vocals then backing up with some math rock stuff.  Each song is a trip into excitement.  I hope they pull out some new tunes sooner than later.

Info -

I love the Reptilian, for some reason they fill the hole in my heart that is left from me no longer enjoying all the folk punk bands I used to love.  When I listen to The Reptilian I get a big vibe that these dudes are best friends and stoked on their friendship and it seems so organic.  They are just so highly energetic and fun.

This was the first time that I have been exposed to Jowels, I love the opening track because I’m so into those light, simple, ambient, waltzy sounding scream along tracks.  When their other two songs sped by like the speed of light I was surprised but they ruled so much that I couldn’t be anything more than stoked.

Info -

A few days ago I was reminded that this band had reformedish as Locktender after a two year hiatus.  While Locktender does not have any official releases yet they do plan on releases three seven inches this year.  But enough about them here is Men As Trees.

I first got this Men as Trees record as a tape a year ago after scourging the internet for someone who had it.  It is loaded with sound clips which is always fun.  They mix ambient instrumental jams a la Explosions In The Sky with epic screamo break downs.  Everyone that I have shown this record to or has heard it playing in my car has been instantly hooked so you have a great chance of placing it onto your favorite records ever list.
