Info -

One of my favorite new bands to crop up recently in my town. The Greater Good has Jake Amrhein in it and he is one of the absolute coolest dudes around. He books cool bands in Indy and Bloomington (Modern Bronze Booking) and just started up a label called Galt House Records.

Anyway, now about the release itself – It’s amazing. Definitely a Brand New vibe with a little Christie Front Drive here and there and that stuff that’s going on in Pennsylvania right now. Had me hooked from the first track, really great 90s indie rock tunes. It’s solid solid solid. Sing/shout along and all that.

Caelume – The Tundras

Band - Caelume – (Facebook) (Bandcamp)
Release Title - The Tundras
Medium – MP3
Label: Self Released
Style: indie rock, emo, post-hardcore
From: Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

(Stream)(Buy)

Info:

I’ve really loved watching Caelume grow over the last few years. It’s really great to see them putting out releases and playing out of state shows and all that jazz. Tappy, noodly stuff with some riffy stuff and some groovy stuff and gang vocals and it’s loud. The Tundras is their best stuff. Listen to it now.

I’m now going to haphazardly describe them:

You’re definitely going to hear a little Mineral and similar bands like that in there, but this is not some ’90s rip-off band by any stretch. Also a bit of Bear Vs Shark and that whole 2000s mathy indie rock stuff. I Hate Myself tuneage. Fugazi if Fugazi was emoier. These tunes give me goosebumps. That bassline at 3:10 in the first track is too groovy. If you don’t cry at the 3 minute mark of the second track, you have no heart.

“They were ok, I guess, kind of sloppy. They were playing in a church and their drummer kept stage diving onto people in between bands’ sets, I’m pretty sure the guitar player was hitting a flask and they kept saying sacrilegious things. I wasn’t impressed.”

Mara’kate – 3 – 7 – 77 7″

Release Title - 3 -7 – 77
Medium – Seven Inch
Label: (Redwood Records)
Style: hardcore, screamo, emo violence

Info:

I’ve wanted to own this for a while, and tonight I found it for a dollar. Excellent stuff if you’re into Usurp Synapse, Phoenix Bodies, Jeromes Dream or anything else like that. On most of their other records, Derek Black of Phoenix Bodies plays bass, but not on this one. Chaotic, mathy, whatever. Good. Colin May is now in Brighter Arrows with ex-members of Lautrec.

When I heard that this split was happening all I could feel is excitement.  When I heard the tracks for the first time all I could feel is pumped.  Capacities are one of the best new bands out there.  So energetic, so passionate, so awesome.  They remind me of mid 00′s Screamo, fast, loud, harsh, intense while still feeling very fluid and breathtaking.  I want to see this band, scratch that, I NEED to see this band live.

Coma Regalia, what can I say about this band that I have not said before?  Incase you have missed it, I love Shawn, I love this band, I love middle man records, I love how this band is incapable of making a track that I won’t like, I always miss them when they play in my city, I always get stoked when I learn that they are putting out another magical split with another amazing band.  If you haven’t heard them, I describe them as a band who you need to listen to.

I don’t know what to say about this release besides “I Love It!”  James writes for the blog and is the drummer of one of the best bands in my city.  I love the vocals, I love the break downs, I love the sound clips.  This screamo band gives me so much energy and makes me want to believe in the city in which I live in again.  This band surves as a reminder of how important it is to support local acts.  Check it out and love it!

Style – Post Hardcore/Screamo

From – Lafayette, Indiana, USA (Coma Regalia)

Info -

The Catlin Elm opens up this seven inch with a mixture of post-hardcore and some melodic 90′s influenced emo.  The opening song has a great clapping part and perfect place to sing along to.  You know me I am all about audience participation.  I love how the lead singer delivers the vocals, introspective and emotional.

Coma Regalia is on the B-side of this record, the first song has a big sing along that reminds me of the beardy pop punk of Florida, there is an underlining screaming track that drives us to the end of the song but hot damn it is so fucking fun and different.  I am bummed that I missed their show last night due to work but there is always the future!

Info -

Starting off, the dudes in Coma Regalia are most likely the nicest and sweetest dudes that I have ever met.  Shawn (Drummer/Vocalist) has got to be the most inspiring person in Indiana right now.  Middle man records just wow!  Anyways, This seven inch should never go unnoticed.  Both bands are screamo power houses.

Sometimes I ask myself what do I want in the perfect screamo record?  This split delivers – Chaotic parts, Intense Build ups, Quiet vocals, and if you stretch it a little bit – sing alongs.  either way the artwork is amazing and I fucking lock Coma Regalia and the dudes involved.  Check it or Regret it.

I was going to hold onto posting this record until I moved to a new city in about three-six months as a hardcore resume but I forgot to think about a post for today so I am kind of rushing.  I used to be in this band and I wrote and sung all the lyrics on this record.  I guess Step Dads is a Post-Rock/Emo/Hardcore band on this record, I’m not sure what they are like now because I haven’t been in the band for half a year.  Anyways I don’t want to describe the music or whatever besides that writing the lyrics for it got some shit off my chest.

So yeah if you like my bad voice and in three to six months you need a vocalist for you’re band and live in a city on the east coast than I will be down to practice with you.

PPS If the song titles seem dumb and too long it is because they were going to be a story about a kid’s, Tommy, life living with a step dad.

PPPS yeah this is the second post I have written about that is on my label, I just hand made all of the cdrs and had a blast making weird album art that everyone hated but me.

Two Years ago I put this record out and it was by far the most successful record that I did on my short lived label.  Successful for my label meant that I didn’t lose most of my money on the release.  But that isn’t the reason why I put out records of my friends bands anyways.  Either way this record was the best sounding thing I put out and it still rules hard.  JabberJosh is a sweet two piece of brothers that player some solid stoner punk.  Waxeater play heavy stoner rock/post punk stuff that you most likely will get down on.
