I’ve been meaning to post this for a long time, well I mean I’ve been procrastinating for a long time…  Whenskiesaregray are one of those epic post-hardcore bands, and by epic I mean beyond amazing.  This band brings a lot of constant energy to a consistently mid tempo genre and I love it.  These dudes from Baltimore give us heavily emotional jams and I don’t think that I can recommend this stuff enough.

This record fell into my lap after I bought a few things from a distro, I think it might have been a miss pick but I lucked out and got a great record.  Usually when you get a free record with an order it sucks because it is a ten year old record of a band that broke up right after someone pressed 500 of them (been there done that).

I put the Wits End side of first and it instantly blew me away, the kind of blowing me away that makes me automatically throw the record on back on the grooves after it has stopped, the kind of blowing me away that sucks for my roommates because I played the same damn six minute song over and over again.  The first thing that I heard was a similarity to Pyramids, there is something about the vocals and music on this track that is just so fluid.  This Post Hardcore band really knows how to get me going.  The track opens with some call and respond vocals which you know… Turns me on.  Then there are some build ups, a minimal guitar part with yelled vocals.I’m sure that this song will be stuck in my head all day at work and if I cross my fingers this old Norwegian lady will come in and talk to me about Norwegian cheese (sorry still vegan lady).

Perfect Future is on the flip side, their track starts off heavy and intense.  The duel vocals really take this track and make it awesome.  The vocalist kind of sounds like the drummer from The Reptilian.  What throws this song off for me is in the middle when there is a singing line.  I’m not anti singing but unless it is perfect then most of the time it ruining the song.  Good for them that the rest of the song is totally solid so it doesn’t crash it into a wall.

First of this is some powerful stuff, listening to this release just gets me going, I’d repeat my favorite adjective “Intense” but this is further than that.  There is something inside of me that says “Nathaniel, I know you want to express everything but calm down you are driving” when I hear this band.  I feel like when people discuss top 2011′s with me and they don’t mention this band I discredit them.  I put “The Ethanol Bomb” on a mixtape last weak and I’m putting “Waiting in the Wings” on a mix in as we speak.  If you like Pianos Become The Teeth but want something more burning this is it.  From the looks of it this is self released/mp3 which makes zero sense to me because the shit is too golden

I slept on this record for a long time, well I guess a month and a half… I was broke and while I did download it I hate listening to music on my computer as compared to the stereo.  I just love getting mesmerized by a spinning record.  Long story short you most likely have heard this record by now but here is my two cents.  Best record of the year.  Simple as that.

Pianos bring the solid jams with solid screaming by their front man, most people can yell and scream but he seems to do it in a musical way, like controlled chaos or something.  I recently saw them while I was on vacation in St. Louis and before they played a merch guy from a band they were tour on said, “Pianos has the best live show ever you can’t begin to understand how they pull it off.”  Then thirty minutes later I saw them and was blown away, from beginning to end they were intense.  I bought the record there and two days later I was home reading the lyrics and balling my eyes out.  All the lyrics have to deal with the passing of his father but even though it is a more thematic album it doesn’t get tired just teary.

Check it out then buy it or trust me and buy it before you check it out.
