Kite Party – Baseball Season

Band – Kite Party (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Baseball Season
Medium – Twelve Inch
Label – (Animal Style)
Style – Punk/Indie
From - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Info -

I have been listening to this album a lot lately, I feel like it somehow reminds me of Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.  Maybe I am crazy or it is just the synth on some of the songs.

Baseball Season is Kite Party’s debut full length with nine upbeat introspective songs that will get your brain pumping.  I was surprised when I saw that they only have about 1000 friends on facebook because this record sounds too good and is too much fun for a small amount of people to know about it.  Take this album for a test drive and I guarantee that you will love it.

Pyramids – Following the Tracks, Forcing Motion Through Phases

Band – Pyramids (Website) (Bandcamp)
Release Title – Following the Tracks, Forcing Motion Through Phases
Medium – Cd
Label – (Slave Union)
Style – Post Hardcore/Screamo
From -Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

I don’t know how to describe this record or at least in a way that can express how much it means to me.  It was the first more ambient record that I have ever enjoyed before Following the Tracks I avoided anything ambient.  Although this is far from ambient, this is post hardcore at its finest and it is very well done.  I know that this is a bad review but this is Every Poets Disease.

Mallard – Winter Tour 2012

Band – Mallard- (Facebook) (Bandcamp)
Release Title – Winter Tour 2012
Medium – MP3
Label – Self Released
Style – Emo
From – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

(Stream)

Info:

I love Mallard. I don’t know why exactly, but something about them makes them stick out from the crowd of twinkly emo bands with a bunch of demos.  Those bands usually annoy the crap out of me. But Mallard… Mallard rules. Speaking of which, I really wish this band would do a proper EP with some decent production (although their previous effort, Of the Thick, is still incredibly solid anyway), but money can be tight. They have three guitar players and they are fantastic. If you don’t like it at first, give it sometime. It’ll grow on you. Give the tunes on their bandcamp a listen!

Track List -

  1. Winterbourne

Info – I thought that I would never hear another song from the band that I had fallen in love with years ago.  All of their information was out of date and their main site is still myspace.  In what seemed like a weird dream sequence through internet links through links, through links, I found myself at their recently updated bandcamp page.  Then you know how the story goes, I proceeded to listen to this record over and over and over again.

I haven’t heard of either band before but since it was put out on Topshelf I decided to check it out.  I feel like Topshelf is on a hot streak with awesome releases lately and this one is pretty fucking perfect.  I listened to Caravels over and over again until I finally found Gifts from Enola’s songs.  I am bummed that I just ordered a big batch of records because this should have been sailing along with them to my record player.

1994! – Most Deaf

Band – 1994! (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)

Medium – 7 Inch
Label – (Kiss of Death)
Style – Punk
From – Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA

Track List -

  1. Up Sell The Vibe
  2. Sour Thanks Man

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

If I was ever to host a party at my house my go to, lets get this fucking party started band would be 1994!  Right as the needle hits the grooves some dude will scream and shake up his beer and give everyone a beer shower.  No one will be disgusted because they will know that it is time to get fucked up and rage.  Thats kind of how I imagine what it would be like IF, and that is a big if, I ever were to single handled host a party.  That and vegan cupcakes or something.

Anyways if that review didn’t do the band justice then I don’t know what will properly describe them.  They are a two piece that play loud and melodic punk.

7 inches 7 Days: Inch 4

I recently found out that this band broke up a few months ago which is a major bummer.  This four song seven inch is beyond great, noodly emo jams like Cadwaller but rougher around the edges.  Philly produces some really fucking good bands, the lyrics are on the verge of cute so if you are not into that oh well.

Listening to any Pyramids release is like going on an intense adventure.  The lyrics are a poetic story that is surely going to open your imagination.  When I first got this I was floored and every time I pick it up again I feel the same thing.

Info -

I’m not going to lie I’ve never listened to Girl Scouts until know.  Solid Noodly Emo jams.  Besides that they got some great sing alongs, their side of the split is about double the length of Old Gray’s so a little more drawn out and a little more on the musical/epic side of emo.  I’m excited to listen to their previous album.

So it may be obvious that I only picked this out because of my love for Old Gray.  Their two tracks are a little bit different than their first two releases.  The first song sounds like it should be the opener for a full length and it takes me until midway through the track to realize that they only present two songs.  I think this record pulls away from the first, less sing along, pretty guitar parts.  That may sound bad but it really isn’t, they are carving out their own path as a band and becoming more unique sounding and I always enjoy that.  I loved this band before and I still do now.
