Label – (Driftwood Records)
Style – Post-Hardcore/Emotive Hardcore
From – Santa Cruz, California, United States

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

Red Dream by Ted’s Approval has so much that I want in a release.  Like most west-coast bands they push the envelope on hardcore/skramz/whatever.  There are elements and influences from a wide range of music subgenres that I can’t accurately describe but here is what I can say. This Release Rules.

There is a little bit of everything that I like, raw emotional vocals, poetic lyrics, screaming, singing, background vocals, weird shit, rad shit, lil bit of sing along spots, a mixture of genres.  God damn Driftwood records puts out another awesome record from another awesome band.

SRVVLST – I Would But I’m Baroque

Band – SRVVLST (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – I Would But I’m Baroque
Medium – Tape
Label – (Driftwood Records)
Style – Post-Post
From - Columbus, Ohio, United States

(Stream)

Info -

I’m a horrible writer and a horrible reviewer, one thing that I can accurately say about SRVVLST is that this ep is amazing.  I Would Buy I’m Baroque is a six track record that I keep repeating over and over because my mind is unable to understand why I like it so much.  I have a problem with liking bands that are on the edge of genres that you can’t say confidently that they are this or that.  I love the vocal style, sloppy, the musicianship, unique and crisp and the sing a longs, plenty.  I say this all the time, because it is the point of this blog, you need to check out this band now and learn to love them even though they are from the weird town of Columbus Ohio.

Araby – Alone

Band – Araby (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Alone
Medium – Tape
Label – (Stay At Home Records)
Style – Screamo
From - Burlington, Ontario, Canada

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

Araby are a newish band that play chaotic screamo with high pitch vocals.  I’ve been listening to this band for the past few days on repeat.  Like really really good stuff right here.  I like how this album starts without any intro, just slams you right into the thick of things.  I admire that kind of risk and it works out great for them.  There are a quite a few parts that are more melodic and breakdowny which is super rad.  Get into this band now!

Lets state this very simply, Yore Veils is a very fast past, highly energetic record that will get your blood pumping.  Adaje is a band that is highly influenced by early 2000′s screamo and I love it.  KWP is the main jam on this record and damn, it hits home!  I need to see this band live and I need to do it now.

Yes Yes Yes!  I cannot begin to describe how much I love this band.  Anteater is a brutal female fronted Post-Hardcore band from Germany.  Each track is so beautiful and emotional while blending intensity so perfectly.  I can’t believe so many good bands are coming out of germany right now.  Come to the US and have fun sometime?

I’ve been meaning to post this for a long time, well I mean I’ve been procrastinating for a long time…  Whenskiesaregray are one of those epic post-hardcore bands, and by epic I mean beyond amazing.  This band brings a lot of constant energy to a consistently mid tempo genre and I love it.  These dudes from Baltimore give us heavily emotional jams and I don’t think that I can recommend this stuff enough.

Label – (Interskramz Records)
Style – Screamo/hardcore
From - Fresno, California, United States

Info -

This album has been siting in my inbox for way too long!  Cabin Fire is a two piece in your fucking face screamo/hardcore band.  This release is so energetic, raw and wild but also has it’s breakthrough beautiful musical interludes.  Well beautiful might not be the word for raw screamo but it does get me on another level.  Sounds like it was recorded in someones room and I feel like that is perfect for what the band is going for.  Listen to it and then pre order it.

Label – Self Released
Style – Post-Hardcore/Hardcore
From - Bayonne, New Jersey, United States

Info -

Lastletters. hailing from New Jersey bring us post hardcore jams that are heavily influenced by melodic hardcore.  They sound like a tougher Pianos Become The Teeth for a frame of reference.  These songs have plenty of space for some perfect sing alongs for some great crowd participation.  I would love to be able to get out and see this band live.

Things Fall Apart – Keep Calm

Band – (Website) (Bandcamp) (Facebook)
Release Title – Keep Calm
Medium – Cassette
Label – (Turn of the Century Records)
Style – Screamo Indie Emo
From – Columbus, Ohio, USA

(Stream)(Buy)

Info -

Things Fall Apart are from my home state, Ohio. This band infuses an interesting mix of styles – one part skramz-y guitars, one part screamo vocals, and one part indie vibes. It turns out this is a winning blend for a sweet emotional screamo album.

There’s really not one definitive standout track – each song is super solid.

  • Sun Dress has particularly relevant lyrics for anyone whose ever had their heart broken.
  • Walhalla features some catchy riffs accompanying passionate vocals.
  • Admittedly I haven’t seen TFA live, but I imagine there being some intense, emotional, audience-bonding singalongs during the well-crafted M.D.I.G.
  • If you know anything about the demise of Virginia Woolf, the track by the same name might seem blasphemous. However, I think the song was respectfully and beautifully composed, highlighting this troubling yet poetic moment in history in a creative way.
  • Earth Day is quintessential screamo.

This release is definitely worth listening to. While you’re at it, there is now a new track on their bandcamp. Go check it out pronto!
